While many of us PC gamers love to use premium products the reality is that what a lot of people want is to the the most bang per buck out of their systems, meaning that higher end products are not often considered.

When I first saw MSI’s Z170A Tomahawk motherboard the first thing that came to mind was that this motherboard would be a great budget performer. MSI said that this motherboard would be in the sub-£100 pricepoint, meaning that this motherboard will be one of the cheapest Z170 motherboards available, though that does not mean that it is in any way lacking in features.

For this motherboard low low price you will get everything that you will need from your Z170 Skylake system, USB 3.1, an M.2 slot, SLI, CF and even overclocking support. Yes higher end motherboard may contain multiple M.2 slots and may even contain SATA Express ports, but for the majority of users these additional feature will likely go unused.

This motherboard sports a nice black and red colour scheme and has a little bit of white added in to brighten this motherboard up a bit. This motherboard looks like it will be a favorite among system builders and budget oriented PC gamers alike.

A lot can be said for cheap and cheerful motherboards like this one, they offer unparalleled performance for their price and give users all the features that they are likely to use, no more, no less.

While this motherboard is fairly basic when it comes to Skylake we must remember that even the most basic of Skylake boards are feature rich with M.2 slots and even USB 3.1, which are features that ate still very rare outside of Intel most recent motherboards.
