EA Criticizes HD Remakes, Remasters and Backwards Compatability

EA’s Peter Moore has criticised HD Remakes, Remasters and Backwards Compatibility, saying that “It feels like pushing stuff out because you’ve run out of ideas.”

The COO of EA also stated that remaking and remastering old properties would be an easy move for EA given their portfolio of older IP, but says that EA is a company that wishes to push forward, rather than dwell and cash in on past achievements. I guess that this means that we should not expect  a Mass Effect remaster any time soon.

“Remakes, because of who we are, and this broad portfolio of intellectual property…you add all that together, I don’t know where we find the time to do remakes,” “We’re a company that just likes to push forward.”

“For a lot of companies, remakes are a way to drive revenue. It’s sub-cost, it’s an IP that’s there, you can remaster, and that’s great. We don’t do that here. I don’t think that’s ever been in our culture.”

EA has also stated that they see backwards compatibility as a needless feature, a feature that many people use to justify a purchase that then goes unused.

“In the old days, backward compatibility was to convince your mom to buy the new console — not that you were ever going to use it,” “Once you got it? Those things went in the drawer, or on eBay.”
