Kingston Unveils XMP Ready HyperX DDR3 Memory

Kingston's new XMP ready DDR3 SO-DIMMKingston joined the DDR3 memory brigade yesterday with the launch of its HyperX DDR3 SO-DIMMS. Targeted at gaming enthusiasts, the new memory modules are designed specifically for laptops and desktop-replacement notebooks.

DDR3 is fast becoming the memory of choice for desktops and laptops with both major chip manufacturers – Intel and AMD having introduced chips compatible with DDR3 memory. AMD recently launched the AM3 processor while Intel has its high-end mobile platform Centrino 2, Cantiga, which can use DDR3 SODIMM memory for boosting performance. Cantiga is currently the memory base for the fastest laptops, especially gaming ones and allows memory manufacturers to build in XMP support into their cards.

Kingston’s new HyperX DDR3 memory comes with JEDEC and XMP support, both preferred by gaming enthusiasts. Packaged as a 4GB kit (2 x 2GB), the modules are clocked at 1,066MHz speeds and 5-5-5-15 latencies. The pack is expected to be priced above the £100 mark, putting it somewhat on the higher side.
