Reports are now flying in that Gigabyte has recalled their recently release Aero 15 series of notebooks, a notebook that sports Intel’s latest i7 7700HQ, a Nvidia Pascal GTX 1060 and a large 94Wh battery.

Right now it is unknown exactly what the issue with the notebook is, but it is reported to be related to the notebook’s large battery.

Those who own this notebook should contact Gigabyte support as soon as they can, though at this time it is unknown if this battery defect affects all Aero 15 notebooks. Understandably, Gigabyte is trying to minimise the potential PR disaster that can result from battery related issues, especially this soon after the Galaxy Not 7 disaster, though it would be nice if Gigabyte was a lot more public about these issues.

Right now those that have returned their Aero 15 notebooks have been promised quick replacements, which means that these issues are likely already fixed at the factory level.

New models of the Aero 15 should not be affected by these battery issues, though we still recommend that new purchasers of this notebook contact Gigabyte support to confirm that their notebook is not affected.
