Kingston HyperX Cloud Headset Review

Kingston HyperX Cloud Headset Review

Introduction

We regularly speak about the importance of brand identity here at OC3D. Whilst we consider every product based solely upon its merits rather than the name of the manufacturer or similar preconceptions, we are aware that to the man on the street the important thing is name recognition. Given the choice between two products with one being made by Kingston (for example) and one being made by ‘Bob’s Retail Barn and Slave Labour Camp’ we’re pretty certain that all of us will go with the Kingston one.

So it’s no surprise to see that they have combined with QPad, producers of the 1339 we loved so much, to produce the HyperX Cloud headet. HyperX is one of the major brands in the hardware world. If it involves memory then most of us have, at some point, had a Kingston product.

With such brand loyalty and sense of performance comes a need to expand the range, which brings us neatly to the Cloud headset.

Technical Specifications

Regular readers will be aware that, by some margin, the most common headset setup is 50mm drivers and 20Hz to 20kHz response. So straight away the 53mm drivers and 15Hz-25kHz response of the Cloud pique our interest. Bigger in audio terms is, generally, better, and a broader spectrum always leads to a more pleasant listening experience.

With a detachable microphone, two different types of ear cups, and a closed back design, the Cloud ticks all the right boxes. And that’s before we’ve reached the large level of compatibility options. So let’s take a look at what we get.
