Corsair Carbide 300R Review

Introduction

It seems the time has finally come for Corsair to try their hands at a budget case, a strange choice some might say because Corsair cases and pretty much their entire range do carry a price premium over similar products with other brands. We could sit here and start the age old price 'vs' quality argument but I feel we would be here all night and not get an definitive answer. So let's just move on to the specifications of the £58 Corsair Carbide 300R.

Conclusion

So have Corsair had to cut a lot of corners to get the 300R price down to £58? We would have to say not at all to be honest with you all, it's probably one of the better quality cases available in this price bracket. There is a small amount of flex in the side panels if you want to get picky but again we would remind you of its price.

Cooling options are as Mr Burns would say "eeeexcellent Smithers" you can have either 2x 140mm or 2x 120mm fans in the front of the case AND again in the roof these are optional. Out of the box you are graced with a front 140mm fan and a rear 120mm exhaust. Sadly the case does not support the use of the H100 fitted fully internally, you can fit the H80 easily in the back of the case but this will mean sacrificing the rear fan in the roof. Having the large mesh panel in the roof and the side panel fan mounts does give you a great amount of cooling flexibility but if not used will not only allow dust in but your system noise out.

Its a shame cable routing grommets have been left out but with the black internals and the inside being surprisingly spacious there will be no excuse for having a messy system in the 300R. We would hazard a guess that many of the Etailers will pick this chassis to put their budget gaming system in because its actually quite a good looker for its price.

If you are interested in the 300R would would urge you to make sure you watch the video review end to end as we cover what would need a huge amount of text going through all the features and options in quite some detail.

The long and short of it is Corsair has done very well with the 300R, its only just shy of our gold award but it does walk away with a thoroughly well deserved Silver and considering its price and quality we felt we had to adorn it with the Value For Money award as well.

Thanks to Corsair for the 300R on test here today, you can discuss your thoughts in our forums.

For someone looking for a budget case that's not a cheap case this would be right up their alley.

I wish this would have been out when I was building my budget case. I like my current one also (Antec 300 which i got for a very nice price, 25), but theres not really possibilities for proper cable management.

Enjoyed this review while on the throne. Looks like a nice little case for people who don't want solid gold priced cases.
