A lot of PC users are excited about Windows 10's Creators Update, whether it be due to the addition of Windows 10 "Game Mode" or the additional privacy options that are provided by the update.

Today Microsoft has allowed Windows 10 users to install the new Creators Update early though the Windows 10 Update Assistant, before the update officially starts rolling out on April 11th.

Windows 10 based PCs will eventually update to this new version automatically, though using the Update Assistant does provide users with a little more control over the updating process.

Using the Update Assistant

To install the Creators update (Windows 10 version 15063) early, PC users will need to download Microsoft's Windows 10 Update Assistant here, which can be used force your PC to update to the latest version of Windows 10.

All that Windows 10 users will need to do is run the program and click the "update now" option if a new version of Windows 10 is detected.

Once users start the upgrade process your PC will start downloading and installing the Windows 10 Creators update. Users can run other applications or do other tasks while your updates are downloading. The update assistant will notify the user when your PC will need to restart and fully instal the latest Windows Updates.

When updating to the Windows 10 Creators update, all of your files and programs will remain in the same locations as before, though we recommend that users back up their PCs before the update if they can.

After the update is downloaded, your PC will ask you to restart and fully install the Creators update. This can be delayed until you are ready to install the update, as this process may take up to an hour depending on how fast your PC's storage is.

Once your PC is ready it will ask you what privacy options that you would like enabled or disabled, after you select these options you will be booted into Windows, where you will receive confirmation that you are running the Windows 10 Creators Update.

Additional Options

In Windows 10's settings menu, we can already see that there are additional options, with the most noteworthy changes being in Privacy settings and Gaming settings.

In game settings additional options for streaming, DVR and screenshot capture are available, as well as the added ability to use "Game Mode" to achieve higher levels of in-game performance. At a later date, we will be testing Windows 10's Game mode to see exactly how much performance gain this new feature offers.

Closing Thoughts

Everybody hates waiting for long system updates, especially if it is delaying work or the start of a gaming session. Windows 10's Update Assistant is not only allowing PC users to install the Windows 10 Creators Update early, but also to choose the exact time that their system updates.

Without the Windows 10 Update Assistant PC users would have to wait for their system to update automatically, which could be weeks after the initial Creators Update rollout on April 11th and at a less than optimal time.

This upgrade option will allow PC users to install the update whenever they wish and more importantly, whenever their PC is not in use. You owe it to yourself to upgrade your system before the update is forced, especially if you use your PC for productivity.

Anyone using it yet?
Not buggy or anything else making it not function smoothly?
I like that we have more control over the updates using the assistant program. That's a good step for MSQuote
