Sony gives PSVR a price cut

With the recent price decreases of Oculus’ Rift and HTC’s Vive VR headsets, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before Sony’s PlayStation VR (PSVR) headset received a similar price reduction.

While Sony’s new PSVR bundle is not a price reduction per se, maintaining its $399 price for their Basic bundle option while adding a PlayStation Camera to their bundle to offer this $59 accessory for free with PSVR headsets. This gives PSVR an effective price decrease, as the PlayStation Camera is a required add-on for PSVR.

Sony’s more expensive $499 PSVR bundle, which includes two move controllers, the PlayStation Camera and a copy of PlayStation Worlds, has received a price reduction of $50. This bundle now costs $449, with plans to start sales of this new bundle on September 1st.

All three major VR headsets have now seen price reductions, though Sony’s headset has seen the smallest price reduction. That being said, Sony’s VR offering remains the cheapest VR gaming device on the market. At this time it is unknown how these price reductions will affect UK pricing.
