PCSpecialist Cruiser Elite Review

Introduction

Gordon Moore, former Intel CEO, once said that the number of transistors in a computer will double every two years. Until the last decade this somewhat general rule held true. Since the insane advances in microprocessors and the quest for efficiency, the accuracy of Moore’s Law has lessened. However, the concept has been adjusted so that now it’s generally considered that computers will get faster, or cheaper, over the same span. That one we definitely agree with.

“Gaming PC” is a term that once meant something. Back when you could buy 2D graphics cards and a 3D one was extra. Since the invention of the Riva TNT card though all computers can do both. What Gaming PC came to mean was one with the very best of hardware, and a price tag to make the Sultan of Brunei do a double take. Recent advances in the speed of processors, and the capabilities of graphics cards have allowed computers to get faster and cheaper. The latest addition to the PCSpecialist range, the Cruiser Elite, is the perfect demonstration of this phenomenon.

Perhaps a comparison will best demonstrate what we mean before we get down to reviewing the Cruiser Elite itself. In 2016 the PCSpecialist LS-H01 cost £3300, had SLI GTX 980 Tis and scored 8156 in 3DMARK Fire Strike 4K. Today’s review is well under half that – £1399 – and scores 9522 in the same test. Thirteen Nine-Nine. 60 FPS @ 4K for that little is incredible.
