Crowdstrike causes global mayhem by crashing Microsoft PCs

Security giant Crowdstrike causes mass IT outage as security update crashes Microsoft systems globally

The cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike is at the center of an IT outage that is affecting businesses across the globe. A bad update has been released that is crashing Microsoft systems, causing technical issues for users. Many news organisation have misreported this system outage as a Microsoft issue.

Currently, Crowdstrike is working to roll back this bad software update and to restore the functionality of affected systems. In the meantime, major airlines have been forced to ground flights, UK pharmacies are having issues accessing prescriptions, and many GPs have been forced to utilise pen and paper methods when working with patients.

Crowdstrike has confirmed that they have now deployed a fix for their defective update, and that this update is now being deployed. They recommend that their customers refer to their support portal for their latest updates and recommendations.

The UK betting firm Ladbrokes has reported that they are also suffering from technical issues. UK rail services have also been hit by this outage, though trains are still running. The UK broadcaster Sky News had also had issues broadcasting this morning, though this issue has now been addressed.

Currently, it is unknown how long it will take for these Crowdstrike related IT issues to be addressed, or how Crowdstrike will be able to make up for their shortcomings. Simply put, this failure will cost their customers a lot of money. Will the company face legal challenges in the future because of these outages?
