PC will have the Ultimate Version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Square Enix is finally taking its Final Fantasy PC ports seriously
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is coming to PC next week, and Square Enix has given us a glimpse of the game with their new “PC Features Trailer“. Based on this trailer, Square Enix is finally taking the PC platform seriously. Furthermore, the PC version appears to be the best version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, at least visually.
For starters, Square Enix has stated that PC gamers will be able to enjoy “enhanced lighting” with this release. Additionally, there will be “Enhanced Visuals.” While the trailer did not specify what these visual enhancements are, we expect higher NPC counts, longer draw distances and higher-resolution textures. The game will also feature keyboard/mouse support and DLSS upscaling.
With this new game, Square Enix faces an uphill battle. Final Fantasy VII Remake had a terrible PC version. The game was riddled with stuttering at launch, and the game’s performance was all over the place. While patches did improve the game, it overall experience left a bad taste in the mouths of PC gamers, diminishing their interest in this sequel.
Strangely, Rebirth claims to max out at 4K resolutions and 120 FPS framerates, with the trailer above not mentioning ultra-wide monitor support. Unlike most PC games, Rebirth’s framerate isn’t fully unlocked. Furthermore, ultrawide monitor users may need to play this game with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Clearly, Square Enix may need to rethink what they see as vital features for their next PC game release.
