AMD unveils Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000WX pricing and specifications
AMD has officially revealed its Zen 5 Ryzen Threadripper PRO CPU lineup
It’s official: AMD’s next-generation Threadripper PRO CPUs will launch on July 23rd. These new CPUs will provide users with access to up to 96 Zen 5 CPU cores, enabling them to tear through multi-threaded workloads at incredible speeds.
With this new CPU lineup, AMD is smashing Intel’s flagship Xeon W9-3595X workstation processor. With only sixty cores, AMD’s new Threadripper PRO CPUs have a HUGE advantage. That said, the performance leadership that AMD has displayed implies that its new Threadripper PRO CPUs are also faster on a per-core basis.
Below, AMD has highlighted up to 145% more performance than Intel’s Xeon W9-3595X. Yes, AMD’s new Threadripper PRO 9995WX CPU has 60% more cores, but that alone doesn’t yield 100+% performance improvements.
AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000WX Specifications
AMD’s new Zen 5 Threadripper lineup features the same core counts as their predecessors. This means that AMD’s performance gains with this generation are due to clock speed improvements and architectural enhancements. AMD has claimed that its new Zen 5 Threadripper CPUs are up to 22% faster than their predecessors, depending on the specific use case.
AMD’s new Threadripper PRO WX series CPUs support up to eight DDR5 memory channels at speeds of up to 6400 MT/s. This is 23% faster than AMD’s last-generation Threadripper PRO CPUs, which supported DDR5-5200 speeds. Additionally, AMD has raised the boost clock speeds of their Threadripper PRO range to 5.4 GHz.
With its new generation of Threadripper PRO CPUs, AMD is promising performance leadership. This means that AMD’s Threadripper PRO flagship, the 9995WX, has an incredibly high price tag. AMD is asking $11,699 for this CPU. Note that Intel’s Xeon W9-3595X has an MSRP of $5889. AMD’s asking for almost 2x as much as Intel for its flagship workstation CPU. This is unsurprising, as AMD claims that their chip is often over 100% faster than Intel’s flagship.
Initially, AMD’s new Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000WX CPUs will be available through major OEMs like Dell, HP, and Lenovo. In time, these CPUs will be available through retailers, allowing users to build custom Zen 5 Threadripper workstations.
