Steam beta adds TPM and Secure Boot detection for PC gamers

Steam users can now check if their PC has secure boot enabled

Valve, as part of their newest Steam Beta update, has added Secure Boot and TPM detection to their PC client. Now, PC gamers (if they use the beta version of Steam) can check to see if their systems have Secure Boot and TPM enabled. This will allow them to quickly determine if their PC is capable of running many of the newest competitive multiplayer games.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6 will require Secure Boot to run on PC. If this feature is not enabled, neither game will boot. Additionally, Call of Duty: Ops 7 will require TPM 2.0, another security measure. These measures are intended to help prevent cheating within these games.

Steam Client Beta – September 23rd

The Steam Client Beta has been updated with the following changes:

Windows

• Added detecting if Secure Boot and a TPM are enabled on the current machine. This information is displayed under Help > System Information. It is now also collected when opting into the Steam Hardware Survey.

Using Steam’s current beta, PC users can click the “Help” button on Steam and “System Information” to see if their PCs have TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled. These options will be visible under “Operating System” information, as shown below.

We expect Valve to roll out these new options to all Steam users soon. For now, these options are only available to Steam Beta users. This option will become increasingly important as more and more multiplayer games make Secure Boot and TPM required features on PC.
