PS3 Classic MotorStorm is now playable on PC through RPCS3

MotorStorm and MotorStorm Pacific Rift are now playable on PC

The RPCS3 team has just released a video to celebrate the fact that both MotorStorm and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift are now classed as “Playable” on their PlayStation 3 (PS3) emulator. This means that the game can now be finished on PC with playable performance and with no game-breaking glitches.

Recent changes to RPCS3 have fixed the game’s vehicle stuttering issues, making it playable on PC. Additionally, the game is also playable on Valve’s Steam Deck handheld, albeit with some visual patches and disabled MSAA. MotorStorm’s sequel, Pacific Rift, is also playable on Valve’s Steam Deck.

MotorStorm is an early PlayStation 3 classic and a rare style of racing game these days. Even today, the game looks great, especially when upscaled to higher resolutions. Yes, the game is a PlayStation 3 game, but that doesn’t mean it looks bad. Honestly, I would love to see this game remastered for modern hardware. That said, with RPCS3, you can enjoy MotorStorm at higher resolutions and framerates than the original PS3 version.

Sadly, MotorStorm: Apocalypse, the third MotorStorm game, is still classed as “in game” on the RPCS3 website. While the game can be completed on PC, it has minor visual and performance issues. Gamers will need high-end hardware to get good performance, which means that the game doesn’t run well on Valve’s Steam Deck. MotorStorm: Apocalypse may become playable in the future with future RPCS3 optimisations. PC gamers with high-end hardware can brute force through these challenges, but that’s not enough for the RPCS3 team to give the game “playable” status. Today, almost 70% of the PS3 library is considered “playable” by the RPCS3 team using their emulator.
