MSI goes Pulsar with its 360Hz MPG 272QRF X36 G-sync monitor

MSI invests in Nvidia’s latest G-Sync technologies with their MPG 272QRF X36 gaming monitor

At CES 2026, MSI launched its MPG 272QRF X36, a 27-inch 360Hz Rapid IPS gaming monitor with Nvidia G-Sync support and a crisp 1440p resolution. With Nvidia’s latest G-Sync technologies installed, MSI’s new gaming screen is among the first to support G-Sync Pulsar, which delivers sharper visuals by enhancing motion clarity.

Using variable-frequency backlight strobing technology, MSI’s new MPG 272QRF X36 delivers tear-free gaming and 4x the “effective motion clarity” of a standard display. This makes games look sharper and sets a new standard for competitive gaming. We saw this screen in action on the show floor at CES. It indeed delivers better motion clarity than we would expect from an IPS display.

Alongside G-Sync Pulsar, the MPG 272QRF X36 supports Nvidia’s new “Ambient Adaptive Technology”, which uses a sensor to detect room brightness and adjust your screen to deliver optimal brightness levels and colour temperatures. It also supports various “aspect ratio” options, allowing the screen to support “pixel-to-pixel” 2368×1332, 1920×1080, and 1280×960 resolutions with no scaling artefacts.

With G-Sync Pulsar, compatible screens deliver higher levels of motion clarity. This is achieved by replacing static backlighting with a rolling pulsing backlight that pulses with frame-perfect timing. This enables a 4x increase in effective motion clarity, making games appear sharper in motion. This reduces screen-related motion blur.

G-Sync Firmware upgrades

MSI claims that its MPG 272QRF X36 monitor is the first G-Sync screen to support firmware updates. Users can use a dedicated USB port to upload the latest versions of Nvidia’s G-Sync firmware to ensure optimal performance. We have been told that an update is already in the works to increase this screen’s  Pulsar window from 75-360Hz to 48-360Hz. Yes, this monitor can get better over time!

MSI’s MPG 272QRF X36 will be available this month, starting January 7th. The screen will have an MSRP of $649 in the US. UK pricing remains unconfirmed. Input-wise, this monitor supports G-Sync through DisplayPort 1.4a and has two additional HDMI inputs. These inputs support 1440p at 120Hz and support VRR, making them suitable for console gaming.
