Crimson Desert’s PC/Console specifications put other developers to shame
Pearl Abyss released detailed hardware requirements for Crimson Desert
Crimson Desert is due to be released on PC and consoles next week, and Pearl Abyss have released detailed PC and console specifications for their game. This includes detailed resolution, settings, and framerate targets for their game.
On PC, Crimson Desert appears to be well optimised, with only the game’s “minimum” requirements requiring upscaling. All other settings target native-resolution rendering. The game will support both FSR 4 and DLSS at launch, including both upscaling and frame generation.
The PC version of Crimson Desert will be playable on GPUs as old as Nvidia’s GTX 1060, supporting 1080p 30 FPS gameplay with upscaling. However, the company recommends GPUs such as Nvidia’s RTX 2080 and AMD’s RX 6700 XT for a strong 1080p 60 FPS experience at medium settings.
For native 4K 60 FPS at Ultra settings, AMD’s Radeon RX 9070XT and Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti are recommended.
Console Specifications
On all consoles except Xbox Series S, Crimson Desert will use ray tracing and support a 60 FPS performance mode. For Xbox Series S, a 40 FPS mode will be available for users of 120Hz displays, with the game’s quality mode running at 1080p 30 FPS.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X both run at 60 FPS in 1080p performance mode, 40 FPS at a 4K (upscaled 1280p using FSR 3), or at 4K 30 FPS (upscaled 1440p with FSR 3) in quality mode.
PlayStation 5 Pro will offer the best console experience in Crimson Desert, using Sony’s PSSR upscaler instead of FSR 3. Additionally, quality mode is upgraded to 4K 30 FPS while performance and balanced modes run at 60 FPS or 40 FPS 1 at 4K (upscaled from 1080p or 1440p, respectively, using PSSR)
Handheld Gaming with the ROG Xbox Ally
Crimson Desert will be playable on both of ASUS’ ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, with the standard ROG Xbox Ally supporting 720p at 40 FPS. For the ROG Xbox Ally X, higher framerates and resolutions are supported, with 60 FPS gameplay being possible in performance mode.
MAC Support
Crimson Desert will be playable on MacOS, with ray tracing being supported on Apple’s newer GPUs. Apple Silicon processors, as far back as the M2 Pro, are supported. Note that both MetalFX Upscaling and “Frame Interpolation” are supported. Pearl Abyss recommends “for this Mac” presets for Crimson Desert. None of Apple’s Mac settings support 60 FPS gameplay without Frame Interpolation, Apple’s version of Frame Generation.
Other developers need to copy this!
We’ve been asking for this for years. Game system requirements with clear graphical settings, resolution, and framerate targets. It is also clearly listed which modes use upscaling. Too many developers make their game’s system requirements unclear, especially when it comes to upscaling.
Clearly, Pearl Abyss has put a lot of effort into these PC and console specifications. If they weren’t confident in their game’s performance, they wouldn’t release such detailed hardware requirements. After all, we can all put these requirements to the test when Crimson Desert launches. If they are inaccurate, they have opened the door to many complaints and justified criticisms.
