Facebook, Instagram and other Meta services are down for millions of users
Facebook and Instagram are down – Have you been signed out?
Facebook is currently experiencing a major outage, with many users unable to access Facebook or Facebook Messenger. Downdetector has seen a major spike in reported Facebook problems, with Instagram and WhatsApp also showing similar spikes.
Many users have found themselves logged out of Meta services and unable to log back in. When attempting to log back in, users have received a “an unexpected error occurred” message. It is currently unknown what caused this issue or when it is expected to be fixed.
According to DownDetector, the outage started at around 2:30 PM BST, and remains ongoing at the time of writing. Not all Facebook users appear to be affected by the outage.

The good news is that your accounts do not appear to have been hacked. That’s what we feared when we couldn’t access our social media accounts today. This is a simple service disruption, not anything more nefarious, at least so it seems.
Right now, it is uncertain when Facebook, Instagram, and Meta’s other services will return to normal.
Hopefully, Meta will be able to address this outage soon, or at least give us an ETA on a fix. Right now, would-be Facebook and Instagram users are flocking to Twitter/X (and other platforms) to vent their frustration, or at least confirm that they aren’t the only ones affected.
