Lexar to use CXMT chips to build DDR5-7600 THOR series memory modules

China’s CXMT is entering the high-speed DRAM market, making it a true competitor to global manufacturers

IT Home has reported that Lexar is using memory modules from ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) to create 16GB DDR5-7600 modules, placing the Chinese memory manufacturer firmly in the high-speed DDR5 memory market. These modules will be placed within the company’s THOR RGB series with CL38 timings at 1.4V. A DDR5-7200 kit is also reportedly in development. Both kits will be available as 32GB (2x 16GB) of memory.

Until now, Chinese DRAM has typically operated at lower speeds, with CXMT-based kits maxing out at DDR5-6000. Now, CXMT memory is being used for higher-performance DRAM modules, highlighting how far the Chinese DRAM manufacturer has come. CXMT memory is pushing beyond the mainstream memory market.

With DRAM being in short supply, CXMT memory has become more widely sought after by customers. With the three main memory producers, Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix, being unable to keep up with global demand, CXMT has been able to rise up as an alternative DRAM provider.

While the US has sanctions on CXMT, preventing the sale/import of CXMT memory in the US, that hasn’t stopped CXMT from closing the gap with its global rivals. While their memory cannot be sold in the US, it can be sold everywhere else. That means there are plenty of customers for CXMT’s DRAM.

With CXMT offering much-needed DRAM supply, customers are gobbling up all the DRAM that CXMT can produce. Now that CXMT can produce high-speed DDR5 memory, CXMT is positioned to be a much stronger DRAM competitor moving forward. The inability of foreign providers to supply enough DRAM has allowed CXMT to rise. That could hit Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron hard in the long-term.
