AMD’s ready to launch its next-generation of EPYC CPUs and Instinct AI accelerators
Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD, is ready to host the company’s second annual Advancing AI event. There, AMD will be unveiling its latest AI infrastructure, architectures, and developments. This will give us our first proper look at AMD’s Zen 6 CPU architecture, its new Instinct AI accelerators, and everything else AI-related at AMD.
For consumers, this event could give us a glimpse of what’s to come within the CPU market. AMD’s Zen 6 architecture will power AMD’s new EPYC datacenter CPUs, but it will also power AMD’s upcoming Ryzen desktop and laptop CPUs. What AMD shows today with Zen 6 EPYC will relate to Zen 6 Ryzen. As such, if AMD impresses with EPYC at this event, Ryzen fans will have a lot to look forward to.
The whole event is due to take an hour and 20 minutes. Sadly, we are unlikely to see any consumer-focused products at this event. After all, this is an “AI” event, and AI means datacenters.
Last week, AMD’s Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President, Mark Papermaster, stated that AMD’s Zen 6 architecture will deliver “leadership x86”. We will see today if this is true. If so, it paints an exciting future for the consumer CPU market. That said, unless memory pricing improves, it is hard to see most PC enthusiasts being interested in full system upgrades.
