God of War PS5 runs at 60 FPS on PC through emulation

PS5 Exclusive God of War: Sons of Sparta now runs on PC at 60 FPS

The PS5 emulator KyTyPS5 can now run God of War: Sons of Sparta on PC at 60 FPS. While the game isn’t stutter-free, it runs at a mostly stable 60 FPS, which is big progress for a relatively new emulator running a recently released game.

As a 2D action platformer, Sons of Sparta isn’t exactly a demanding or complex PlayStation 5 game. Regardless, this is a strong result from the KyTyPS5 emulator. While the game’s audio clearly isn’t working correctly, it doesn’t seem far from being fully playable on PC.

BrutalSam has released a video showcasing 35 minutes of PC gameplay for God of War: Sons of Sparta. This video shows the game runs with solid performance and is fairly stable. 35 minutes of uninterrupted gameplay without crashing is a major achievement for an early emulator.

Sony ending its PlayStation PC project and plans to abandon physical game media have created a lot of interest in PlayStation emulation. This interest, along with the rise of AI-assisted coding tools, has helped PlayStation 5 emulation develop much faster than expected. While PS5 emulation is still far from being able to play most PlayStation 5 games, PS5 emulator development is progressing startlingly fast.

The last two mainline God of War games were released on PC, and by abandoning PC, Sony has given PC gamers no legitimate way to play God of War: Sons of Sparta. PC gamers either need to invest in PlayStation hardware or find other ways to play new God of War series games. In a sense, Sony has fueled the drive to create a strong PlayStation 5 emulator. After all, if Sony continued supporting PC, gamers wouldn’t need to create a PlayStation 5 emulator.

We don’t condone game piracy. Game developers deserve to be paid for their work. Sony’s decision to abandon PC and physical games has caused a lot of self-inflicted damage to PlayStation. They only have themselves to blame.
