Modders get Nvidia GTX Pascal GPUs running with Windows XP

Nvidia Pascal GPUs can now run on Windows XP using unofficial drivers

Modders have taken Windows XP to the next level by adding support for graphics cards that never officially supported the OS. A modder called SupraGSX has created an unofficial Nvidia GPU driver called “Forceware-382.69”, a modified version of Nvidia’s GeForce 368.69 driver. This driver adds support for Nvidia Pascal (GTA 10 series) GPUs to Windows XP, giving the OS support for a new class of graphics hardware.

Nvidia officially stopped supporting Windows XP with its Maxwell graphics cards. Using AI coding tools, a newer Nvidia driver now supports Windows XP. This adds support for GTX 900 and GTX 10 series graphics cards. This includes Nvidia’s Titan Xp, the company’s strongest Pascal gaming GPU.

While this driver is functional, it is not an official GPU driver. It is also not guaranteed to be stable with your hardware. Right now, there are mixed reports of this driver’s functionality, with some reports of OpenGL, PhysX, and other features not working for some users.

Please do not use this driver if you value your hardware

These modded Nvidia GPU drivers are reportedly “vibe-coded”. Even if they weren’t using AI coding tools, unofficial drivers come with risks, as they may use your hardware in unintended or dangerous ways. If you value your hardware, you shouldn’t use these drivers. Forceware 382.69 is available on GitHub, and its code is available for analysis. Even so, I can’t recommend using these unofficial drivers.

As novel as the idea of using Nvidia Pascal hardware with Windows XP is, Windows XP is a dead OS. As it stands, the OS is unsafe to use on the internet and doesn’t support modern software. While the effort required to get newer GPUs running on Windows XP is commendable, its usefulness is limited. That said, using a Titan Xp on Windows XP will always be a fun idea.
