Tech bargains for upgrading your PC setup

Low-cost tech that could upgrade your setup

Let’s face it, hardware can be incredibly expensive. That said, you can upgrade your PC without buying more RAM, a beefier CPU, or a better graphics card. There are other ways to improve your setup, and sometimes a quality-of-life boost is worth more than an FPS boost. That’s why this article is focusing on affordable tech upgrades that could elevate your PC setup.

USB Hubs, Card Readers, and SSD Enclosures

Reaching around the back of a desktop PC can be a pain, and modern laptops aren’t blessed with plentiful USB ports. For this reason, USB hubs are a must for modern PCs, especially if you use a lot of PC accessories. Furthermore, if you use devices with SD cards, or other removable storage cards, having a card reader can be incredibly useful.

Last on this list is a Sabrent SSD enclosure, a tool that lets you turn an old, unused M.2 SSD into an external storage drive. This drive will be faster than most USB sticks, and will rival most USB storage options with its 10 Gbps speeds.

Headset stand and useful handles

Having a dedicated place for your things can be the difference between a tidy PC setup and a messy one. If you need a place to put your headset, these stand options can be incredibly useful. The second option is incredibly versatile and can be used to store more than just headsets.

GPU Support and external power switch

Modern GPUs can be incredibly large and heavy, making a dedicated GPU support a good option for those who want to avoid GPU sag and other problems. A lot of weight can be put on your GPU’s PCIe bracket, and a break in this area can turn your expensive GPU into a paperweight. Adding a dedicated GPU support can lessen strain here and give you peace of mind, making this a low-cost but very valuable upgrade.

Next is an external PC power button, which lets you power on your PC from your desk. Supplied splitters will allow you to continue using your PC’s power button, but this gives you the option to power your PC from a more convenient location. While this is most useful for under-desk or wall-mounted PCs, it could be a handy addition to most PC setups.

Ethernet Switches

Lastly, we have some affordable Ethernet switches. Yes, they are managed and don’t offer power over Ethernet (PoE), but one costs less than £10, and the other can be easily mounted wherever you want it. Good options for users with many wired devices and no need for Gb+ networking speeds.
