Squadron 42 has arrived on Steam, and it’s surprisingly easy to run

Squadron 42 is coming to PC in 2027 through Steam

Cloud Imperium Games has confirmed that Squadron 42 will come to PC in Q2 2027 through Valve’s Steam platform. This huge single-player sci-fi adventure was originally unveiled in 2012 as the single-player component of Star Citizen. Since then, the game has evolved into a standalone title with a star-studded cast. Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Ben Mendelsohn, Henry Cavill, and more star in the game, making it a true space epic.

Squadron 42 isn’t just a space combat game; it’s a full sci-fi adventure with space combat, first-person combat, and quieter inter-mission sections. Players are stationed on a massive capital ship with a dynamic crew and plenty of space to explore.

Unlike Star Citizen, Squadron 42 is a standalone single-player experience with a focused narrative that follows the player and their journey into a galaxy on the brink of war. The game is set within the Star Citizen universe, setting the scene for the massively multiplayer online RPG to come.

Enlist as a rookie in the UEE Navy and step into a cinematic, single-player space adventure where you are at the center of the action. Live, work, and fight alongside your crew, brought to life by an all-star cast, as the story unfolds across fighter cockpits, capital ships, space stations, frontier outposts, and the front lines of a galactic war. Through intense combat, sacrifice, and the choices you make when it matters most, you will earn your place, your rank, and your legacy. You don’t watch the rise of a hero. You become one.

These minimum PC system requirements don’t make sense

While Squadron 42’s PC system requirements are low, they are also nonsensical. While the game’s minimum hardware requirements make sense for a game that originated in 2012, they don’t work with the game’s Windows 11 OS requirement. The CPUs listed by Cloud Imperium Games are not Windows 11 compatible. That means that Intel Sandy Bridge and AMD Bulldozer CPUs can’t run Squadron 42 with Windows 11.

Cloud Imperium Games needs to update these system requirements with Windows 11-compliant hardware recommendations. While we understand that they are saying that their game can run on 2012-era CPUs, that doesn’t mean they should recommend Windows 11 alongside incompatible hardware.

Minimum:

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 11
Processor: Quad-Core CPU – Intel: i7 (Sandy Bridge or later), AMD: Bulldozer or later
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: DirectX 11.1-compatible graphics card with 8 GB VRAM
DirectX: Version 12
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 150 GB available space
