Mass Effect Universe trailer leaks after BioWare’s closure

Mass Effect: Universe receives its first trailer one day after BioWare’s closure

One day after EA shut down BioWare, a trailer for “Mass Effect: Universe” has leaked online. Jason Schreier has confirmed the two-minute trailer is legitimate, saying BioWare was actively developing the game until the studio’s closure.

Some suspect this trailer could have been this year’s “N7 Day” trailer for Mass Effect, kickstarting the game’s full production. The trailer shows a human protagonist talking with an Asari and features several combat sequences against Turian, Salarian, and Krogan opponents. The trailer also shows Liara T’Soni at the end, confirming her return to the series.

This trailer used no real gameplay footage. It features “in-engine” footage that uses “pre-production assets” and does not represent actual gameplay. The trailer also showed the working title “Mass Effect Universe”.

EA closed down BioWare this week, cancelling its planned Mass Effect project. While the leaked trailer says “coming soon”, we now know that isn’t the case. So far, EA has not taken down the leaked trailers or commented on their release.
