AMD release the specification of their Ryzen 5 1500X

AMD has now released the specification of their Ryzen 5 1500X, their first Ryzen Quad core processor. This CPU will come with 4-cores and 8-threads and with base/boost clock speeds of 3.5/3.7GHz, making this CPU slower than AMD’s flagship 1800X in terms of single-threaded performance.

These new Ryzen 5 series CPUs will be coming in Q2 2017, though AMD has not released any official pricing on these new CPU models. It is expected that AMD will release a second 6-core CPU model called the Ryzen 5 1600, though this remains unconfirmed at this time.

Below is a list of all confirmed AMD Ryzen SKUs and their known clock speeds and specifications;

Processor Name Cores Threads Base Clock Speeds Boost Clock Speeds TDP Price UK
Ryzen 7 1800X 8 16 3.6GHz 4.0GHz 95W £489
Ryzen 7 1700X 8 16 3.4GHz 3.8GHz 95W £389
Ryzen 7 1700 8 16 3.0GHz 3.7GHz 65W £319
Ryzen 5 1600X 6 12 3.6GHz 4.0GHz
Ryzen 5 1500X 4 8 3.5GHz 3.7GHz

This new information again goes against previous Ryzen leaks regarding quad-core and hex-core models, which means that any unconfirmed information from previous leaks should be thrown out the window.

While pricing has not been announced for AMD’s Ryzen 5 1600X and 1500X we expect these CPUs to come with prices of around £240 and £180 respectively, though this is just an estimate.

With clock speeds of 3.5/3.7GHz is almost certain that the Ryzen 5 1600X won’t be able to outperform Intel’s i7 7700K at stock clocks in CPU bound scenarios, though it is worth noting that the Ryzen 5 will be priced significantly lower than the i7 7700K, so it is a moot point.
