While working with ASUS, the professional Overclocker der8auer has been able to reach a record-breaking overclock for on AMD’s Ryzen 7 2700X processor, breaking the 6GHz barrier with an overclock of 6009MHz, a 200MHz boost over the 5.8GHz overclocks that we reported on earlier this week.

With AMD’s first generation of Ryzen processor, the maximum core overclock achieved was 5.9GHz on a Ryzen 5 1600X 6-core processor, with der8auer breaking this record with a 100MHz clock speed boost on a processor with eight cores and sixteen threads.

This record was achieved using ASUS’ Crosshair VII Hero X470 motherboard, allowing der8auer to break the world 8-core record in Geekbench 3 and GPUPI (for CPU) for Eight core CPUs, surpassing the performance of the overclocked X299 Skylake-X i7 7820X CPUs that previously held the record. What is most noteworthy here is that AMD’s Ryzen 2700X was able to surpass Skylake-X despite having lower overall clock speeds.

In the video below der8auer discusses Liquid Nitrogen overclocking in a lot of detail, including the motherboard settings that he used and how he prepared his motherboard for LN2 cooling. Please note that these exact settings and preparation steps should not be used outside of LN2 overclocking.
