MSI enables Resizable BAR support on older AMD/Intel motherboards and Nvidia GPUs

MSI has enabled support for the PCIe Resizable BAR function across a wide range of motherboards, including their Intel 500-series, 400-series and 300-series chipsets and AMD TRX40, X570, B550, A520, X470 and B450 motherboards.

This support for Resizable BAR is designed to work with support AMD and Nvidia graphics cards when using MSI’s latest BIOS files. The feature will require a motherboard/processor combo that supports Resizable BAR, a supported BIOS and a graphics card that supports the PCIe Resizable BAR function.

At CES 2021, Nvidia detailed its plans to support Resizable BAR across its entire RTX 30 series GPU lineup. This will require GPU VBIOS updates and new drivers for many RTX 30 series GPU owners.

The PCIe Resizable BAR function can deliver tremendous performance boosts in some games, with our testing finding performance gains as high as 20% when using a Ryzen 9 3950X and a Radeon RX 6800. The results of this testing are detailed here.
