MSI updates their AM4 lineup to support Raven Ridge

When AMD released their AM4 motherboard platform, the company stated that they planned to support the socket for several product generations, allowing 1st generation motherboards to be used with several generations of Ryzen products.

MSI has now updated their whole AM4 lineup bios containing AGESA version 1.1.0.1, offering support for Raven Ridge APUs while also delivering some compatibility improvements. Some users have also reported higher memory speeds as the result of this update, allowing more users to reach native speeds on their 3200MHz memory.

With the release of Raven Ridge in the form of the Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G the video outputs on AM4 motherboards will finally be utilised, thanks to Raven Ridge’s included Vega graphics component. At this time it is unknown whether or not further BIOS updates are required to offer support for AMD’s upcoming Ryzen architecture, which will replace AMD’s high-end Ryzen lineup.

With the desktop release of Raven Ridge, AMD finally has a product that is capable of taking on the i3 in the low-end consumer desktop market, no longer requiring a dedicated graphics card to function. This release will bring competition back into the low-end desktop market and give office users options outside of Intel for general purpose systems.
