AOC announces their G2590VXQ FreeSync budget-oriented display

In the low-end of the monitor market, FreeSync has always had one major flaw, with budget FreeSync monitor often lacking wide variable refresh rate windows, what we would typically call a “FreeSync Range”.

Some of today’s budget-oriented FreeSync displays can ship with a variable refresh rate range that could be as low as 60-75Hz. This variable refresh rate range is soo small that it is practically useless, though today AOC has provided us with information about a display that has the potential to be a game changer in the low-end gaming monitor market.

This display is the AOC Gaming G2590VXQ, a 24.5-inch 1080p TN display that comes with a listed FreeSync range of 30-75. This variable refresh rate range is ideal for gamers, as it works between framerates of 30, the minimum acceptable framerate for most modern gamers and the display’s maximum refresh rate of 75Hz, which itself is higher than the standard 60Hz panels that most modern monitors ship using.

AOC plans to ship this display in the UK with a price of £159 sometime in January 2018, offering a 3-side frameless screen with a simple stand and stereo speakers. Sadly AOC has not revealed whether or not this display supports VESA monitor mounts.

If AOC’s G2590VXQ can offer a flawless 30-75Hz FreeSync Range, the company will have transformed the low-end gaming monitor market. Delivering an ideal variable refresh rate window for typical PC gamers while also providing an attractive price point.
