PC is undoubtedly one of the best places to play modern games, giving users the option to play games at higher framerates, resolutions or even modify their games to suit their own needs. So much of today’s gaming technology has trickled down to the console market, with the PS4 and Xbox One finding their origins in PC hardware and PC-like Adaptive/Variable Refresh Rate standards making their way into HDMI 2.1 and the Xbox One X.

Today PC stands as the only place where games like Destiny 2 can be played with a steady 60+FPS framerate, variable refresh rate solutions are readily available and where the balance between game performance, visual quality and gameplay resolution can be decided by gamers and not developers.

With the announcement of Nvidia’s Big Format Gaming Displays (BFGD), ASUS was one of the first brands to reveal their own offering, the ROG Swift PG65 BFGD. This display offers a 65-inch 4K 120Hz panel with support for the DCI-P3 colour space and peak brightness of 1000 nits with a Direct-lit full-array LED backlight. The ROG Swift PG65 provides users G-Sync HDR support, ensuring smooth gameplay with minimal latency, though you would be wrong to think that this is just a massive G-Sync HDR monitor.

This unit has a built-in Nvidia Shield Android TV, offering support for HDR, Nvidia GameStream technology and video streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Video, YouTube, Hulu and content from the Google Play Store. Like other Shield Android TV devices, controllers can be used to play games on the set and this BFGD can also be used as a Google Assistant.

With support for Nvidia G-Sync, content playback is not an issue, with the ROG Swift PG65 being able to play all content at its native framerate, be it 23.976, 24, 25 or 30FPS/Hz formats. This display will not be ruined by interpolation or other framerate fudging.

The price of this display has not been revealed yet, though we do plan on interrogating ASUS about this Big Format Gaming Display at CES tomorrow. We are very interested in seeing what this TV-like G-Sync Andriod TV monitor is like in the flesh and see for ourselves what G-Sync HDR is like on such a massive panel.
