ASUS rumoured to be creating an AREZ sub-brand for AMD graphics products

Rumour has it that ASUS has plans to develop a new GPU sub-brand for AMD graphics cards, reviving their ARES brand to create AREZ. This change in naming scheme is allegedly a result of ASUS’ membership to Nvidia’s Geforce Partners Program (GPP).

If true, this change will remove Republic of Gamers branding from AMD/Radeon Graphics hardware, changing ASUS’ ROG Strix series GPUs to AREZ Strix series GPUs. Videocardz has also reported that the AREZ name will be used for future ASUS Dual, Expedition and Phoenix series GPUs.

Those who have followed AMD/ASUS for a long time will know that ASUS’ first ROG series product was their Republic of Gamers CROSSHAIR, an AMD AM2 motherboard which achieved world record overclock on AMD’s famed Athlon 64 FX-62 processor. This face makes it extremely sad as the possibility that the ROG brand will be removed from future AMD/Radeon products.

(ASUS has created AMD GPUs under the ARES name before)

One possibility is that ASUS is planning a similar move with Nvidia, creating a hypothetical MARZ sub-brand (Remember the ASUS/Nvidia MARS series?), making it clear that MARZ is for Nvidia and AREZ is for AMD, though this is merely hopeful speculation.
