Gigabyte releases their RX 580 Gaming Box

Gigabyte has started to make a name for themselves within the niche external GPU market, having already released several products into their Gaming Box lineup. Now the company has released a new RX 580 variant of their eGPU (external GPU) design, though curiously this model is missing Gigabyte’s premium Aorus branding.

This enclosure acts as an external GPU dock and as a three-way USB 3.0 hub, with an additional USB 3.1 port for charging (no data connection). The RX 580 Gaming box has an integrated 450W power supply, which is more than enough to power the RX 580 and to charge a connected Thunderbolt/USB 3.1 notebook, requiring a Thunderbolt 3 (40Gbps) connection for external GPU functionality. The power supply within this eGPU enclosure is said to be over 90% efficient.

The RX 580 within this Gigabyte Gaming Box offers AMD’s reference clock speeds of 1257MHz base and 1340MHz boost out of the box, with a software “OC mode” which can enable boost clock speeds of up to 1355MHz. The GPU has 8GB of GDDR5 memory and a memory clock speed of 8.0GHz effective.

Looking at this unit, we can see that Gigabyte has added some red LED illumination to this PC, alongside a custom cooling solution for AMD’s RX 580, with a single massive cooling fan and a large heatsink design with plenty of heatpipes.

At this time, Gigabyte has not confirmed the pricing of this RX 580 Gaming box.
