LG to reveal “Ultra” series super-wide monitors at CES 2019

LG is set to showcase a new range of monitors at CES 2019, unveiling their new “Ultra” series of displays, starting with their 32:9 UltraWide 49WL95 and their UltraGear 38GL950G G-Sync Gaming display.

The LG UltraWide 49WL95 is a 32:9 5120×1440 monitor, which uses a 49-inch panel that can fill the role of two 27-inch 1440p displays, albeit without any bezels in-between. The display covers 99% of the sRGB colour spectrum and is designed to support HDR10 inputs, though the 350 nits typical brightness level doesn’t inspire much confidence in the screen’s HDR capabilities.

Input-wise the LG 49WL95 supports USB-C, HDMI and DisplayPort inputs and is expected to operate at 60Hz, though the display’s refresh rate has not been confirmed. The display also supports picture-in-picture mode for multi-device usability and can charge devices using USB-C with up to 85W of power. The 49WL95 also contains a 4-way USB 3.0 hub.

On the gaming side, we have the LG UltraGear 38GL950G, a 144Hz G-Sync gaming monitor that offers a resolution of 3840×1600 and covers 98% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. This gaming display also supports LG’s Sphere lighting system, which is set to be detailed further at CES 2019. This monitor features both HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort inputs.

Both the UltraWide 49WL95 and the UltraGear 38GL950G are curved displays, though LG has not listed the radius of their curvature in their press release.
