Nvidia lists GDDR5X GTX 1060 on their UK/US websites

Earlier today we reported on a rumour that Nvidia’s GTX 1060 would be recreated with GDDR5X memory, a change that would create a new SKU that offered increased memory bandwidth when compared to its existing GDDR5-based variants.

Now, Nvidia’s GTX 1060 webpage officially lists their GTX 1060 6GB graphics cards with support for both GDDR5 and GDDR5X memory, with these specifications being listed on both Nvidia’s UK and US websites. At this time it is unknown whether or not this “GDDR5/X” listing is legitimate or an unfortunate error on the part of Nvidia’s staff, but it supports today’s rumours that a GDDR5X-based GTX 1060 graphics card is coming.

For the most part, Nvidia’s GDDR5X-powered GTX 1060 will offer similar performance levels to its GDDR5-based equivalents, as the increased memory speeds that are provided by GDDR5X should only deliver GTX 1060 users increased performance levels when the graphics card is bandwidth constrained.

While Nvidia’s specifications listing only mentions 8Gbps memory, we already know that Nvidia has released 9Gbps variants of the GTX 1060, so we can safely ignore the fact that Nvidia’s specs don’t also show GDDR5X memory speeds.

With AMD’s rumoured RX 590 graphics card on the horizon, Nvidia’s hypothetical GDDR5X-based GTX 1060 offers Nvidia an interesting counterpoint for a mid-range graphics card refresh. The question now is, where will Nvidia’s GTX/RTX 2060 fit into all of this?
