Oculus reveals their standalone Go headset

Alongside their decreased pricing for their Rift VR headset, Oculus has officially revealed their new Go standalone headset, which does not require a powerful PC or a docked mobile phone to function.  

This VR headset will come with a price tag of $199, with the headset coming with a single 2560×1440 internal display and a lens configuration that allows users to wear their glasses while in the VR world. 

The Oculus Go will support 3D Spacial audio, though at this time it is unknown how accurate the headset’s built-in tracking system is, though it is expected to give a similar experience to Samsung’s Gear VR headset. The highlights of this headset will be the simple fact that using it will allow the user to conserve the battery of their mobile phone, at least when compared to GearVR and similar solutions, with this design allowing for some design improvements due to the fact that the system is fully enclosed. 

 

Our first standalone product is Oculus Go—the easiest way to jump into VR. It ships early next year, starting at $199. It’s awesome for watching movies or concerts, playing games, or just hanging out with your friends in VR.

 

 

Oculus plans on releasing their new Go headsets to developers by November, with plans to ramp up production for a release sometime in 2018.
