It is worth noting that GDDR6 uses an 180-ball FCBGA design, which is larger than the 170-ball designs of GDDR5 and smaller than the 190-ball designs of GDDR5X, making GDDR6 incompatible with existing GDDR5/X form factors.Â
Also note that these new 9/10GT/s GDDR5 modules come with increased operating voltages of 1.55V, which means that they will consume more power and produce more heat than slower GDDR5 memory. This is a factor that will need to be considered by those who wish to use this new GDDR5 memory, especially given GDDR6’s faster transfer rates and lower voltage requirements.Â
