Games Workshop takes on Astartes creator as an official animator

If you are in any way interested in Warhammer 40K, you should watch Astartes, the fan-created animation that showcases exactly what it’s like to see a Space Marine in action.

To all those people who thought “Games Workshop should hire this guy”, guess what? They did! Games Workshop has hired Syama Pedersen, the animator behind the Astartes series of Warhammer shorts, to work as part of their extended Warhammer Animation Team.

As a huge fan of Warhammer, Syama is excited to work on an official Warhammer project and has confirmed that a follow-up to Astartes is in the works.

[I’m] super excited for Astartes to transition to an official project! I never would have thought this would be happening, and I can’t thank the amazing fans enough for their encouragement. It’s been my dream to animate Warhammer 40,000 ever since playing Space Crusade as a kid, and I’m pumped to work with the real deal Warhammer guys at Games Workshop to bring the fans the best Astartes action possible.

In addition to hiring Syama Pedersen, Games Workshop has confirmed that their Warhammer Animation Team is now working with other fan creators to develop officialise fan projects, such as Lost Legion Studios’ The Exodite, PaxelArt’s Primaris: The Last Templar, and Codex Film’s Iron Within.

Games Workshop is now entering a new era for Warhammer 40K animations, tapping the talents of their community to develop content that the franchise deserves. Below is an early look at The Exodite, a series that will focus on 40k’s T’au faction.

Games Workshop has confirmed that other collaborations are “in the early stages of development” as well as two new shows. If all of these projects bear fruit, Warhammer 40K fans can expect to see a lot of new animated content in the future, which is great news for all lovers of the franchise.
