Nicehash has successfully paid back all of its users following its 2017 hack

Back in 2017, Nicehash, a Slovenian cryptocurrency company, was hacked by unknown thieves, allowing 4,640 bitcoins to be stolen from their users. Now, the company have proudly announced that they have paid back all of their users following this hack by pushing their profits into a reimbursement program. 

At the time of the theft, the stolen Bitcoin had a value of around $55 million. Now, the stolen bitcoin has a value of over $104 million. Now that their users have been reimbursed following their 2017 hack, Nicehash can now generate profits again. Nicehash’s CEO has said that the closure of their reimbursement program “ heralds the beginning of a new era of growth and development for us”.

Despite the investigations into the theft, it is currently unknown who hacked and stole the bitcoin from Nicehash in 2017. Currently, the Nicehash hack is the “largest theft in Slovenian history”. 

Nicehash is a website which specialises in hashpower-renting, allowing buyers to rent hashing power from cryptocurrency miners across the globe. This allows people to mine cryptocurrency without investing in hardware and allows miners to automate their mining process with Nicehash acting as middlemen. Nicehash’s miners are paid in Bitcoin, and these miners mine a variety of cryptocurrencies for Nicehash’s buyers.
