Creative Assembly have announced Total War Sagas: Thrones of Britannia

The Creative Assembly has officially announced a new title in their Total War series, the first new game to take on the company’s new “Saga” moniker, highlighting the fact that the game will cover a short period of history rather than a longer historical period like previous games like Rome, Medieval, Shogun and Empire.

The first game in the Total War Saga series will be called “Thrones of Britannia”, starting in the year 878 AD, long before the Norman Conquest of England and there King Alfred “The Great” of Wessex was earning his title.

In this period of history, England has been invaded by Norse Warlords, a time of turmoil where the map of Britain could be forever changed as the Kings of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland rise to achieve their own lofty ambitions.

Not much is known about this game aside from its historical period and location, though the game itself is expected to cover a short historical period with a lesser focus on technological advancements. King Alfred The Great only rules for 28 years, though the events during his reign are certainly enough to create an interesting Total War experience.

Total War: Thrones of Britannia will release sometime in 2018 on Windows PC via Steam.
