Dark Souls Remastered releases early on PC

Dark Souls: Remastered has officially released on PC, giving PC gamers access to the game a full day before the title’s release on console platforms. This new version of Dark Souls offers some key upgrades over its predecessor, including support for 60FPS framerates out of the box an improved performance in specific areas.

The original PC release of Dark Souls was catastrophic, capping the game at 30FPS with a lock 1024×720 (sub-720p) resolution and no rebindable controls. While these issues have been fixed by modders, most notably by Durante’s DSFix, the game never ran flawlessly, with 60FPS mods introducing additional problems into the game. No PC players have an opportunity to play a better version of this infamous game.

Existing owners of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition on Steam will receive a 50% discount for Dark Souls: Remastered, with the standard game costing £34.99 in the UK.

Some early reports about this Remaster have been negative, with some reporting that Dark Souls cheaters are already infesting the game’s servers while attempting to ban legitimate players. It appears as if some old bugs remain unpatched in this remaster.

Alongside this launch comes a new set of PC system requirements, which are a lot higher than what was released on the Dark Souls Japanese website last month. Today it appears as if the recommended PC system specs from that listing have become Dark Souls Remastered’s new minimum, with higher-end hardware occupying the game’s recommended slot. This Remaster could be a lot more demanding than some initially anticipated.
