Dragon Ball FighterZ PC – First Impressions

Dragon Ball FighterZ has now launched on PC, giving us an opportunity to finally see the PC version of the game in action. Given the lack of a PC beta preview, many PC users were concerned about the quality of this highly anticipated title on the platform, especially when it came to hardware requirements. Does the game run well on PC?

To start off, Dragon Ball FighterZ was a small 4.2GB download, allowing us to get our system ready to game extremely quickly. Depending on the speed of your internet you could be playing the game within a few minutes if your internet is fast enough.

Being within the first few hours of release we obviously have not had enough time to give FighterZ a proper assessment, but so far things are looking good. While some of us will be unhappy to see a 60FPS cap for the game, though this is understandable given the mechanics of most in-depth fighting games, where key information is given in every frame. This framerate cap is something that we plan on looking a little further into later.

Looking at the game’s options menu, we can see some barebones graphical settings, with the game offering fullscreen, windowed and fullscreen windowed modes with a resolution scaler and four graphical presets. The resolution scale slider can adjust from 20% to 200%, with 100% being your display’s native resolution. The Xbox One X version of FighterZ runs at around 1800p, making PC the only place where a true 4K resolution is possible.

In the game’s sound options players will be able to choose between the game’s English and Japanese voice actors, depending on your preference. There are also a few sliders to adjust the volume of effects voices and the game’s music.

FighterZ is played best on a gamepad, through keyboard controls are available, provided you are willing to adjust them to your liking. Keyboard controls are rebindable, though the game is much easier to learn on an Xbox Gamepad, as the game’s tutorials are delivered with Xbox-style controller inputs.

In the few action-packed games that we have played our GTX 1080 managed to easily play this game at a steady 60FPS in battles, requiring us to play the game with a 200% resolution scale at 4K to see framerate drops during special attacks. So far this game seems to be very easy to run on PC, even when tested the game as a dual-core configuration.

The only trouble that we have had with this game so far is being able to get into some online lobbies, though we have always gotten in after a few attempts. It seems there is no shortage of PC gamers who want to play FighterZ at launch.
