Epic Games Publishing announced deals with gen DESIGN, Playdead and Remedy

Epic Games is taking another bold step into the videogame industry by becoming a multi-platform publishing label. With this move, Epic Games wants to take a developer-first approach, promising developers full creative freedom, full project funding and 50/50 profit share agreements.

This move aims to deliver developers fairer publishing deals, and this approach has already gotten several developers to partner with the gaming giant. So far, Epic Games has confirmed three partnerships, bring gen DESIGN, the creators of The Last Guardian, Playdead Studios, the developer behind Inside and Limbo, and Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind Alan Wake, Control and Quantum Break.

Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that it has signed a deal with Epic Games to create two next-generation titles, while the exact details of Epic’s dealings with Playdead and gen DESIGN are unknown.

Below are Epic’s aims as a multi-platform publisher;

– Full creative freedom and ownership. Developers retain 100% of all intellectual property and full creative control of their work.

– Fully-funded projects. Epic Games Publishing will cover up to 100% of development costs, from developer salaries to go-to-market expenses such as QA, localization, marketing, and all publishing costs.

– 50/50 profit sharing. Developers earn a fair share for their work — once costs are recouped, developers earn at least 50% of all profits.

In the coming months, Epic Games plans to reveal more information about their publishing efforts, including games, development partners and other details.
