Bethesda releases teaser trailer for Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is “entirely online” and offers a “solo” option

Bethesda has released a boatload of information about Fallout 76, confirming that the game will be an “online only” experience, a first for the series, allowing multiple players to work together to take down monsters, capture nuclear launch codes or otherwise cause mischief across West Virginia.

Singleplayer Fallout fans will be able to play Fallout 76 entirely in “solo” mode, allowing players to play through the game’s campaign/story mode without the co-operation or hostility of other online players. Please remember that solo doesn’t mean offline, which means that players will still require an internet connection for singleplayer games.

Fallout 76 will also expand upon Fallout 4’s building mechanics, allowing players to build anywhere on a map that is four times larger than its predecessor. In Fallout 76, new items have been added to the game, making the game’s base building element bigger and better than ever. All that players need to do is place a Construction and Assembly Mobile Platform (C.A.M.P)

An unfortunate consequence of Fallout 76’s always online element is that it is likely that the game will not support modding on any platform, as modding sounds like a surefire way to break an online gaming experience. This change will no doubt be disappointing to PC gamers, given the sheer size of the Fallout modding community.

Fallout 76 will use a newer iteration of Fallout 4’s engine, using a reworked rendering and lighting pipeline to offer sharper visuals while making more efficient use of modern console/PC hardware.

In online mode, Bethesda has confirmed that death does not have many negative consequences, as you will keep your items after death with no risk of being robbed. Fallout 76’s VATS mode was not shown at Bethesda’s E3 press event, making the much loved pseudo-turn-based combat mode a potential sacrifice on the altar of online multiplayer.

In Fallout 76, the vault dwellers of Vault 76 are emerging from their shelter for the first time, little more than 20 years after the atomic bombs of the great war first dropped. War has ravaged the open world of West Virginia, not so much time, giving gamers a new look at post-nuclear war America, complete with a variety of new monster/mutant types as well as remaining missiles that are simply asking to be used by players.  Hopefully, this means that better loot will be available to players.
