Halo: Reach will officially support modding on PC

Halo Reach’s PC version will become available on PC at 6 PM GMT, and at launch, the game will support modding on PC. This will allow PC gamers to add new content to the game, customise existing content and drastically alter the game after its release, coming at the cost of matchmade multiplayer games.

In the Halo Subreddit, it has been confirmed that a simple launch command will allow Halo: Reach to bypass the game’s anti-cheating system to enable mod support. This modding support will be limited to the game’s singleplayer campaign and custom modes, though multiplayer will remains accessible on unmodified copies of Halo: Reach.

343 Industries has recommended that PC players backup/copy their Halo: Reach Installs to enable easy switching between the game’s modified and unmodified versions, allowing both custom content and the game’s multiplayer modes to remain easily available. This will save time for modders, who would otherwise need to adjust the game on a file-by-file basis.

Moving forward, a 343 representative confirmed that the company plans to “improve” the game’s mod support. This makes it likely that other games in the Master Chief Collection will also support mods on PC.

This move means that PC gamers will be able to mod things like Tesla’s Cybertruck into Halo with relative ease, revealing Elon Musk’s pickup truck to be the prototype Warthog that it is.

Hi! We’re still working to improve this down the road, but for now you will have an option when you launch to bypass anticheat. This will allow you to play around with campaign and customs but not allow you to play any match made games. I highly suggest making a copy/backup of anything you modify so you’ll be able to switch back and forth easily.

Halo: Reach will officially support modding on PC

The modding community for Halo’s prior PC releases has remained active for well over a decade, with Halo: Combat Evolved’s original PC release gaining new levels, fan remasters and complete reworks. Halo SPV 3.2 is one such mod, which we have covered in-depth in the past.

Mod support is the cornerstone of Halo’s PC fanbase, making 343’s decision to enable mod support in Halo Reach a popular one. Only time will tell what the Halo fanbase will create. All we’ll say is that we are looking forward to seeing some new fan-made Halo content.
