Is your PC ready for F1 2021? – Ray Tracing is coming to the series

EA/Codemasters reveals F1 2021 - Will include Ray Tracing on PC

F1 2021’s PC system requirements have been revealed – Ray Tracing is coming!

Last week, EA and Codemasters revealed F1 2021, the first game in the long-running racing franchise to support modern consoles like Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. With this new addition, Codemasters has promised gamers new features, a new story mode and support for higher quality visuals than ever before.

When using high-end PCs and next-generation consoles, gamers should expect F1 2021 to feature fast loading times (than last-generation consoles), support for ray tracing and a large list of engine upgrades that will enable other graphical enhancements. On PC, F1 2021 has confirmed support for ray tracing, though at this time, Codemasters has not revealed how ray tracing will be utilised within the game.

On Steam, F1 2021’s PC system requirements have been released, revealing similar CPU and memory requirements as F1 2020. What changes is that F1 2021 appears to lack DirectX 11 support, finally making DirectX 12 the API of choice for PC gamers. This change is a must, given F1 2021’s support for ray tracing within the game. DirectX 11 lacks support for hardware-accelerated ray tracing.

GPU-wise, F1 2021 sees the game’s minimum GPU requirements rise while the game’s recommended GPUs remain the same. For fans of ray tracing, Codemasters has given us separate minimum and recommended GPU requirements for ray-tracing, setting the game’s minimum GPUs as Nvidia’s RTX 2060 and AMD’s Radeon RX 6700 XT. Without ray tracing, F1 2021’s minimum system requirements list Nvidia’s GTX 950 and AMD’s R9 280.

With ray tracing enabled, Codemasters recommends AMD’s Radeon RX 6800 graphics card and Nvidia’s RTX 3070. At this time, the resolution and framerate targets for this GPU configuration remain unknown.

As a DirectX 12 only title, F1 2021 only supports Windows 10 based operating systems, with Codemasters recommending Windows 10 64-bit version 2004 or newer due to the game’s support for hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Storage-wise, F1 2021 should be 80GB in size, making the game the same size as F1 2020.
