Monster Hunter World is set to be extremely demanding on PC

Capcom is set to release the highly anticipated PC version of Monster Hunter World on August 9th, bringing one of this year’s console highlights to the platform for the first time.

Today, the game is expected to be one of 2018’s most demanding PC games, owing thanks to the game’s reported reliance on Temporal reconstruction techniques on consoles. This checkerboard-rendering style feature is designed to take lower resolution output images and use data from previous frames to create what appears to be a higher resolution final image, delivering an enhanced final image that will have varying levels of sharpness and accuracy depending on the speed of camera movement.

In short, this feature means that the 1080p output of a standard PS4 is not native 1080p, which in turn increased the hardware demands that are required for a native 1080p resolution on the PC platform. These hardware demands also mean that 4K resolutions will be almost impossible under the game’s highest graphical settings, at least on modern single GPU configurations.

A Resetera user called “FluffyQuack” has released several high-resolution (5K) images for Monster Hunter World and has published several performance numbers that are based on the game’s pre-release PC version. FluffyQuack reports that the game is unable to be played at 1440p 60FPS using a GTX 1080 graphics card, requiring the game to be lowered to its high preset to maintain 60FPS in the game’s hub area. Lower settings may also be necessary when users face heavy combat scenes on PC.

This makes sense given the game’s uber demanding PC hardware recommendations, with Capcom listing Nvidia’s GTX 1060 3GB and AMD’s Radeon RX 570X 4GB as capable of 1080p 30FPS gameplay when using the game’s high graphical preset.

Below are Monster Hunter World’s PC system requirements, which call for a minimum of an AMD R7 260X or Nvidia GTX 760 graphics card and either an Intel i5 4460 or an AMD FX 6300 or higher.

The game’s recommended system requirements are much higher, calling an RX 570X (Rebranded RX 570) graphics card or a GTX 1060 3GB or higher. The game will require around 20GB of storage space on PC and a 64-bit OS.
