Nvidia promises 40% Performance Boost in Anthem through DLSS

Anthem’s March 26th update will bring support for Nvidia DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and Nvidia Highlights to the game alongside a wide range of bug fixes and gameplay tweaks.

Using DLSS, Nvidia claims that users of RTX series graphics cards will be able to gain up to a 40% performance boost in Anthem, which will enable players to use higher game settings or access more stable performance levels.

Sadly, DLSS is limited to specific resolutions, being supported at 4K on all Geforce RTX series graphics cards and 1440p is available on RTX 2060, RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 series GPUs. Yes, the RTX 2080 Ti will not support DLSS at 1440p, and no RTX series graphics cards will support DLSS at 1080p in Anthem.

Nvidia’s DLSS technology uses a Deep Learning Algorithm and the RTX Turing architecture’s Tensor cores to upscale lower resolution images to create a higher resolution image output. This is what allows DLSS to offer a performance boost, though the quality of the final image will be different than a native resolution rendering, due to the enhanced reconstructed nature of DLSS enhanced images.

Below are some benchmark numbers from Nvidia which showcases the performance boost offered by DLSS. Sadly Nvidia did not specify the area of the game that they tested and failed to list the minimum or percentile framerate data of their benchmark runs.

We plan to analyse Bioware’s use of DLSS within Anthem, both in terms of raw performance and in terms of image quality. Users of Nvidia RTX series graphics card should update to the company’s Geforce 419.67 Game Ready Driver, or newer.
