Star Trek: Bridge Crew now works outside of VR

Ubisoft’s multiplayer Star Trek starship simulator now supports systems without VR headsets, opening up the game to users who lack an expensive VR headset.

The benefits of this move are clear, as it opens up the game to a much wider audience and makes it much easier for gamers to play with friends online. How many of you have three friends with a VR headset to play Star Trek: Bridge Crew with. This change is something that Ubisoft should have arguably implemented from the start, as the combined player bases of PSVR and today’s PC VR offerings are nowhere near as large as non-VR platforms, especially for niche titles like this.

This new update will also deliver enhanced support for Windows 10 Mixed Reality headsets as well as several new advanced graphical options. These extra settings are designed to enhance the experience for those who are playing the game outside of VR, though they are also usable within VR for those who have powerful enough PC hardware.

Ubisoft’s David Votypka has also stated that there are “additional cool things” in the works for Star Trek: Bridge Crew, though at this time it is unknown exactly what updates/changes are planned. Will we be seeing new ships or variants that are inspired by other Star Trek series’/universes?
