Stellaris: Apocalypse has been announced

Paradox Interactive has officially revealed Stellaris’ next major expansion, Apocalypse, Which will ship alongside a free update which will also add several new features to the game.

This expansion is set to release this year and bring a range of new features to the game, though the most notable additions to the game include new units in the form of “Colossus” planet killers and huge “Titan” capital ships. Both of these additions will change how players conquer the galaxy or destroy their foes, though that does not mean that this expansion will not add some extra non-violent content.

Right now the addition of this expansion is not expected to increase the game’s overall PC system requirements, which is great news for existing Stellaris players.

Stellaris: Apocalypse redefines stellar warfare for all players with a host of new offensive and defensive options, alongside a few non-violent new features for those poor, unsuspecting empires not currently at war. Alongside a host of free updates coming to Stellaris, the new Apocalypse DLC will include:

? That’s No Moon, neither is That One, That One Might be a Moon, Wait, No: Keep the local systems in line with fear of the new “Colossus” planet-killer weapon – a technological terror that eliminates entire worlds from the universe

? All Your Base Are Belong to You: New enormous “Titan” capital ships can lead your fleets to conquest, offering tremendous bonuses to the vessels under their command. Meanwhile, fortify key systems with massive orbital installations and secure your homeworld as an impenetrable bastion among the stars.

? Pirates of the Constellation: Watch out for Marauders – space nomads who raid settled empires and carve out their lives on the fringe of civilization. Hire them as mercenaries in your own conflicts, but take care that they don’t unify and trigger a new mid-game crisis!

? Some Non-Violent Features: New Ascension Perks and Civics are added in the expansion, along with new Unity Ambitions that provide new ways to spend Unity and customize your development

Apocalypse will also add “pirates of the constellation, marauding space nomads who will raid settlements and potentially act as mercenaries for civilisations. The game world can feature several groups of these marauders, who can unify to create a new mid-game crisis. Allowing these forces to unite could create an unstoppable hoard, so be careful when interacting with these new powers.

Below is a video which showcases an early build of Stellaris with this new expansion, showcasing some of the game’s new features. This demo is based on alpha code and is not representative of the final game, though it does give existing Stellaris players a glimpse of what to expect from Apocalypse.

Stellaris: Apocalypse is currently available for pre-order from Paradox Interactive with a price tag of £15.49.
