Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is coming to PC this year

SEGA’s Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz is getting re-released on all major platforms later this year. This remastered 2006 classic will be coming to PS4, Xbox One and Switch on October 29th, while PC gamers will receive the game on Steam in “Winter 2019”.

This game will release as an enhanced version of the 2006 Wii title, with the new version gaining the HD moniker, creating Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD.

While this remaster will offer enhanced visuals, this new version will lack many of the minigames which were included in the Wii original. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD strips the original game’s minigames down from a list of 50 to a meagre 10. While this will disappoint some fans of the game; it is worth noting that no modern platform makes heavy use of motions controls. Even Nintendo has switched back to more traditional control methods with recent releases.

A new addition to the remaster will be an online leaderboard, which is designed for single-player time attack modes and a new Decathlon Score Attack mini-game. Most of the game’s new features are listed in the trailer below.

Sega promises that Super Monkey Ball will feature “uniquely optimised control schemes for each platform”, which should allow the game to control well on both gamepads and PC’s keyboard/mouse control schemes.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD will release on October 29th on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch for £34.99. At this time the game’s exact PC release date and pricing are unknown.
